Brantley / Putnam
Location:
Latitude 29°41'5", Longitude 81°56'53".Period of record: 2 sampling dates; November 23, 1997 to December 21, 1997.
Surface area (Shafer et al. 1986): 324 acres / 131 hectacres.
Lake Region (Griffin et al. 1997): Trail Ridge.
Lake Region description (Griffin et al. 1997):
This region has different characteristics from north to south. In the north, the narrow depositional ridge has poor drainage and flatwood forest vegetation. It broadens to the south becoming a karstic landscape with many solution depressions and lakes. The region is dominated by well-drained, nutrient-poor soils. Lakes in this region are mostly small, acid, clear lakes, with some slightly colored lakes. Average lake phosphorus value were mostly less than 10 µ/L. There is a concern about increased acidification of the Trail Ridge lakes. Although the evidence is not clear for many lakes, there is some evidence that atmospheric deposition is contributing to progressive acidification of lakes in this region.
Geologic formation (Brooks 1981):
The geology is dominated by quartz sand and quartzite gravel with sandy clay beds of the Hawthorne Formation.
Physiographic region (Brooks 1981):
The lake/water body lies in the Interlachen Sand Hills division of the Central Lake District .
Other LAKEWATCH data available (LAKEWATCH 1997): No additional data available.
