A Community Partnership for Our Childrenšs Education
In Tribute to George G. Kirkpatrick, Jr

Dear Potential Partner: I seek your help in obtaining the financial resources needed to expand and enhance one of North Floridašs most unique and memorable youth education programs: Fishing for Success (FFS).

FFS began in 1998 in an effort to help a handful of underprivileged youth. By 2004, the program had expanded to include children from all walks of life and to actively involve their parents and guardians. Last year (2007), more than 17,000 youth and their parents participated.

The North Central Florida Business Community has been and continues to be the driving force behind FFS. In January of 2002, numerous businesses and individuals worked together to raise funds for the construction of a new 3/4-acre pond. The pond was built to accommodate a growing number of participants at our monthly Family Fishing events. When it became apparent that a new fishing pier was needed for physically challenged individuals who also wanted to participate, the business community raised the money and built a 60-foot fishing dock.

Indications are that FFS will continue to expand this year, with an expected 18,000 participants. Handling this many kids will be difficult given shortfalls in state funding to the University of Florida. I do not want to disappoint these kids and I am sure that you don't, either!

Please make checks payable to: University of Florida Foundation, Inc. Share with an indication that it is for FFS. Then mail to Fishing for Success c/o Dr. Daniel E. Canfield Jr., PO Box 110600, Gainesville Florida 32611.

Your help will make a huge difference and will be directly visible when you see the excited faces of FFS kids and their parents. Thanks for your consideration!!

Best Regards
Daniel E. Canfield, Jr.,
Professor and Advisor to Fishing for Success
